Elul is a season for Soul Searching. Our soul and heart can become "FULL" of stagnation and toxicity. Without proper reflection, these little weights become large hinderances. “Prove me, O Lord, and try me; test my heart and my mind.” (Psalm 26:2). Ask God to examine your heart/soul and to reveal shortcomings that you have overlooked in haste or ignorance. Although sitting quietly with the Lord can seem boring, this is what we need to do to see our heart for what is in truth -- it will reveal the undercurrent of the subconscious and unconscious levels to the Light of God's love and grace.
During the month of Elul, be willing to turn around. Turn your face toward God and be willing to to remind your soul to “Praise the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name.” (Psalm 103:1). God has not turned His back on you for you are His Beloved. However, at times, we turn our back on God. Turning around is a choice. Choose it. He will be there to meet you in intimacy and peace.
Have courage to be open to relational connection with God and others. Watch for areas where you have been functioning out of duty or religion and not out of genuine openness. This is a season of renewal in your prayer life - time to get on your knees with fresh fervor. Nothing builds relational connection like prayer. As you pray to God, you build connection with Him, and as you pray for others, connection is established in your heart toward them.
